To give you a taste of what you can expect, see our EXO merchandise post where we showcase EXO phones, shirts, hoodies, and plenty of other band merch from this supergroup. There’s a lot of great merchandise in that post, so be sure to check it out.
One of they best ways you can show your support to your favorite group is to buy their merchandise. It not only looks great on you and helps you connect with other people who like the band. Ever see somewhere wearing a t shirt with your favorite band and you know immediately you have something in common? Additionally, buying merchandise from your favorite group help support their music (because you paid for it) and it helps promote them too (because you’re wearing their name on you!).

Here’s an extremely popular lightstick among kpop fans: the Big Bang Light Stick Version 4! If you’re here, you already know that in 2014 Big Bang the World Music Awards‘ World’s Best Group, World’s Best Live Act, and the World’s Best Video. You also know that in between winning Daesangs left and right in Korea, they collect international awards like getting the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Worldwide Act. So here, I’m going to show you where you can get your own piece of essential Big Bang merchandise: their Version 4 Light Stick!
Overview: This is a great light stick. It is sleek and elegant and a pretty nice size, boasting the Big Bang yellow crown atop a white or black base/handle. Good quality construction and nice functionality with a sound-responsive flashing mode.
It has the Big Bang B on top of the yellow lotus flower/crown shape. The B is visible from the top as you can see here in the picture. Overall it’s very pretty and something you would likely want to keep to decorate your room with.
The white or black button, depending on which color you bought, is the on and off switch. The yellow button, which is the same on both, is the mode switch. It has a nice black lanyard with Big Bang Written on one side and YG on the other.
It needs 2 AAA batteries that do not come with the light stick.
It’s pretty large, but it’s not too heavy to be difficult to hold at a concert. The material feels sturdy, but not too thick to be heavy and tiring. The base unscrews several times to put batteries in, which is great. By this I mean that you have to twist it several times around to unscrew the bottom of the base.
Not all kpop lightsticks have this. Some kpop lightsticks (at least in the past, they seem to make most of them of a higher quality now) the bottom of the base would just kind of twist off in one turn.
This makes it really easy to fall out by accident, meaning you will probably drop it and risk breaking it or losing it at a concert. Also, if the threading gets stripped inside, then good luck getting that thing to screw back on! There’s so little threading, that if you strip it by accident by turning it too hard when the threads aren’t aligned properly, it’ll be messed up and be difficult, if not impossible, to put it back on.
That’s one main reason why I say this light stick is of good quality construction. The base twists many times to smoothly hold it in place and stay there.
Here is the box in comes in. You’ll might throw it away, but some fans like to keep it. It is a pretty box and a good size for keeping stuff in if you decide to keep it and use it for something.
Reaction mode for this light stick is really cool. It basically has a little microphone that senses when sound is being played and will flash on and off to the beat of the music. It works well both at concerts and some fans even have fun playing with this feature at home, too. Like this:
If you want to see another kpop light stick that is even more advanced, check out my post on EXO’s Version 2 Lightstick. But, there are other really cool light sticks that don’t have much advancesd functionality but are stick really cool, like the BTS Lightstick.
Other Things It Comes With
It comes with instructions on how to replace the battery. But, let’s be honest. You can probably figure that part out yourself without these instructions.
Here is a beautiful unboxing video done by Life with Anna.
Where to Buy Yours Outside Korea (USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Others)
If you live in Korea, you’re probably not looking it up online, so here’s the scoop:
If you want to buy if from the YG eShop online, you have to sign up for Naver, which is entirely in Korean. I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel too comfortable putting in my credit card info when I can’t really understand the text on the page. My Korean is ok, but not THAT good!
So, if you’re from the USA, Malaysia, Singapore or the Philippines, (like a lot of kpop fans are) you still want your Big Bang light stick!
Fortunately, though, you can buy official Big Bang merchandise from English-friendly websites like YesAsia. They have all legit official merchandise and provide a great means to buy for those not living in Korea.
We hope you have enjoyed this rundown of the Big Bang Lightstick. Version 4 is one of my favorite lightsticks they have come out with. I’m a big fan of GD and TOP of Big Bag so it was a lot of fun to write about it. Visit our Weebly or our Google + to see a nice neat list of all of our posts on Korea fashion.
Have you seen the amazing clothes that they wear in period Korean dramas? They are the traditional Korean formal wear called a hanbok. Translated, it literally means “korean clothing”. There are many different kinds of hanboks and you may be wondering where you can buy one of your own. Fortunately, even if you don’t live in Korea (or a larger city with a Korea-town) you can still buy hanboks online. There are lots of stores online that sell hanboks, so I’ll be writing soon about the differences between them and which are the best places to buy YOUR awesome traditional, k-drama worthy Korean hanbok!
You’ve likely seen a lot of your favorite hallyu stars in a hanbok. Lee Min Ho, Song Joong Ko, Lee Hyun Woo, etc, etc.
Real Deal Hanboks
The first place I want to tell you about is a seller on Amazon called Antique Alive. They custom male hanboks for you. You just buy the hanbok, tell them your measurements and they make it for you. Pretty neat, huh? It’s like you’re getting the Joseon royal treatment!
This is the “real deal” hanboks made in Korea. Since it is in Korea, it takes a couple of weeks to ship to you. But, if you want something authentic, this is your best bet. They do good work and are very well reviewed.
We’re also going to be looking into cheaper hanboks and where you can find some decent ones without paying too much. Sometimes you may not necessarily want to pay for the Joseon-princess royal treatment, so I’ll be adding some more information here soon.
Main Hanbok Pieces
Here are what the different parts of the hanbok are called. There are different pieces that are only worn by men or women and some worn by both. Some things have changed throughout the centuries, as with all fashion, but the basics of it are fairly consistent enough for this explanation to be useful.
The jeogori is the top part. It is worn by both men and women, but the women’s is shorter and generally more ornate. The men’s is simpler and longer. Jeogori constists of a lot of different pieces, most of which you don’t really need to know. But, in case you’re interested, there’s the git, gil, goreum, seop, so-mae, buri. The little white piece that sticks out from under the collar is called the dongjeong.
Otgoreum (long cloth in front)
That piece of cloth you see in the front of the women’s hanbok is called the otgoreum. It’s just for decoration and hangs down nicely in along the chima, or skirt.
The chima is also only worn by women (the men wear a baji). There are single layered, double layered, and quilted chima. Underneath that, you wear a petticoat-like skirt called a sokchima.
The baji is the pants and is only worn by men. Chimas and bajis are kind of like the traidition Korean form of skirts and pants. They’re a lot baggier than westerner’s pants so that you can sit on the floor.
The black hat you see the men wear is called a gat. The frame is made of horse hair and the fabric is horse hair.
Women’s hanboks consist of jeogori and chima. Jeogori is the top part and is blouse/jacket and is more curvy looking than the men’s. The skirt part is called the chima. Also, only the women’s has the otgoreum.
The men’s hanbok also calls the top part jeogori, like the women’s. The men’s jeogori is a lot more simplistic than the women’s. The bottom pants are called a baji. They are pretty loose fitting to make it easy to sit on the floor. Po is what you call the robe that is worn over everything. Only the men get to rock that sweet gat.
Generally the hanboks are worn on formal or semiformal occasions. Ever since 1996, South Korea has Hanbok Day where they celebrate the the traditional Korean fashion everyone loves. There’s a big fashion show in Seoul and it’s been getting a lot of attention lately as all things Korean are exposed to a more globalized audience. Thanks to technology, this awesome style is being seen by people all over the world. It even seems to be influencing fashion designers all over the world.
Well, more to come soon. For now, here is a poster of Song Jong Ki with his own sweet gat to hold you over. Also, let me know what kind of hanboks you’re interested in buying. Women’s hamboks vs men’s hanboks vs simple vs ornate? Message me and let me know what kind of hanbok you’re looking for and I’ll see what I can find.
